Eddy Kenzo walks down memory lane

Eddy Kenzo’s Mbilo Mbilo concert, held at Hotel Africana last Friday, had a unique guest in American Ambassador, Scott DeLisi.

Shortly before Kenzo’s performance, DeLisi took to the stage and gave an inspirational speech that traced Kenzo’s success story.
“Kenzo didn’t give up, he banked on his deeper belief and was not deterred even when he lived on the streets. His is a very inspirational story and if Kenzo has made it, you can also make it. Keep the belief alive and work hard towards achieving. I am very delighted to stand on this stage tonight, to celebrate the journey of a young man that didn’t give up,” he said as he requested the crowd to take sometime and watch a short documentary about Kenzo’s life story.

And oh boy! The documentary was very touching. It took us back to Masaka with Kenzo’s relatives describing the hardships he went through, losing his mother as a toddler and his journey to Kampala. Kenzo narrated how he lived on the streets in Nakivubo just to be able to attend soccer games and to make some money as a ball boy.
Kenzo talked about his journey to the music industry; how he met Bobi Wine, his first breakthrough hit, all the way to winning a BET award.
Kenyan singer Amani took to the stage and entertained revellers shortly before Kenzo, who stepped on stage at about 10pm.

It was a white affair. Kenzo was dressed in his trademark long white shirt, white skin-tight jeans and white shoes, and so were the night’s MCs NTV’s Douglas Lwanga and Daggy Nyce as well as the entire band.
Kenzo rocked his fans for over an hour doing songs like Stamina, Ogenda Kunzisa, Nice and Lovely, Be Happy ,and many more.
When he went for a break, his fiancé Rema Namakula took on the mantle to entertain “Taata Aamaal” fans with her love ballads like Lean On Me. Rema in a rather naughty tone, thanked revellers for “supporting us”.

Kenzo returned with Ghetto president Bobi Wine together with Nubian Lee as they did Kiggwa Leero and Size Yo.
The show picked more momentum when Kenzo invited King Saha and Gravity Omutujju, who did the inspirational collabo Winner.
With the adrenaline hitting the roof, Kenzo introduced a new group of child dancers that left many revellers wowed at their talent.
But the show seemed like it had just started when the Triplets, more popularly as the Sitya Loss dancers, stepped on stage and got everyone on their feet as they joined Kenzo to dance to Jambole.

The crowd sang along, danced and chanted in ecstasy as Kenzo and the children pulled the charming dance moves in the Sitya Loss video.
The Sitya Loss performance could only be compared to the comic dance moves by Seka Manala and King Kong during the Maria Rosa performance.
Kenzo climaxed the show with Mbilo Mbilo. However, halfway the performance, he was interrupted by Kenyan tycoon Elly Kalekwa, the Sofapaka soccer club boss, who flew in all the way from Nairobi just to attend the concert. He showered Kenzo with US dollars and Kenyan Shilling notes making, the show end on a high note.
