DJ Rachael marks 20 years spinning disks

MIK_7112
So far, only two deejays have managed to celebrate 20 years in the entertainment game and that is deejay Alberto who recently celebrated 29 years as a disk spinner and DJ Rachael, whose real name is Rachael Kungu, the pioneer local female deejay in the country.
Rachael last Saturday proved that her span of 20 years behind the decks is a milestone by holding an event that attracted deejays from different parts of the world like DJ Ena Lind from Nigeria, Jinku from Kenya, Lawz from the UK, Moroto Heavy from Greece and Uganda’s Darkmeme, all entertaining guests before the main act.
Dubbed ‘the rapture warehouse party’, DJ Rachael’s fete introduced us to a new venue, Industrial Area Warehouse, just after Club Guvnor. It is private, big enough to accommodate more than 400 people. The décor was impressive and perfect for the celebration.
The event started with a cocktail with drummers entertaining the audience before the deejays took over. By midnight, the place was full of partygoers. It was a night to remember for the veteran deejay.
Having started out in 1994, DJ Rachael has spinned discs for different music genres, carving out a prolific career in a male-dominated industry. Rachael took to the stage past midnight and started mixing jams to the delight of her fans that comprised mostly Whites and the youth. Rachael tiptoed from rock music and expertly mixed RnB, dancehall and other music genres.
However, Rachael says that she has not yet achieved her goals because her vision is to play in Europe at a big event such as the Ultra festival. “Having played for 20 years at events like the Marin ball, Nyege nyege festival, Bayimba international festival, Sondeka festival in Kenya, St Patrick’s Day (Irish day) in Uganda, played for the German ambassador and Nordik National Day among others, I will only get satisfied when I play in Europe, especially at the Ultra festival.” she said.
On the whole, the evening was befitting the celebration of Rachael’s 20-year-old disc spinning career.
