Angella Katatumba raises millions for cancer institute

You may wonder what made Angella Katatumba participate in the cancer awareness drive where she donated Shs10m and also held a concert to highlight the deadly disease.

Personal experience

Well, the songstress revealed she lost an aunt to ovarian cancer and an uncle to cancer of the esophagus in 2014.

It is that personal experience and seeing the suffering of cancer patients in Mulago.

Because of this, the artiste’s contribution went to the emergency wing at the cancer institute in March this year. But money alone would not help the situation and having done previous charity projects like “For You Gulu” campaign, Katatumba met the directors of the institute. She promised them she would create more awareness through music.

She did exactly that last Friday at Kampala Serena Hotel with “Mulago Yaffe concert” where more than millions of shillings were raised. Shs5m in cash and Shs15m pledged.

The concert, which was jointly organised with Uganda Cancer Institute and Uganda Bikers Association, was well attended. From government officials, diplomats, corporate honchos, politicians to celebrities.

Clad in a pink short dress and body stockings, Angella Katatumba came on stage at 9pm to an ecstatic applause from the audience.

She sang her songs and other pop hits. The catalogue included her songs like Supernatural Girl, Pledge, For You Gulu and Mulago Yaffe while the covers included Greatest Love Of All, Ain’t Nobody, Ain’t No Sunshine and Forever.
