The music video : Wale Wale – Chameleone

I  have bad news and good news. The bad news is that the wait was not worth it as far as every viewer will attest. The good news is, the Wale Wale music video is above average.
Going deeper into the bad news, you have a very great concept, choosing to go to Karamoja for the video shoot, yet this concept falls down to its death at the execution stage. For example, why did Chameleone have to don bling for his accessories?
He could have done a better job, coming off as a real Karimojong. The set up would have worked best with him carrying some spears and sticks, coming out of his manyatta. Instead, we are served with a modern man who seems caught up in a strange culture that he is yet to acclimatise to.
Taking a closer look, one also notices that the video, despite being high definition, fails on the lighting, blurs here and there coupled with a few shadowy images.
The good news, however, is the fact that he has the audacity to shoot this video in Moroto, a place many Ugandans have never visited. I love that he tries to make the Karimojong and their culture, the highlight of this music video – the toothy smiles from the aged people and the Karimojong dances.
Talking of the dances, Chameleone is able to blend his own Wale Wale strokes with those of the Karimojong, and then we have that mélange of different camera angle shots to give us a stare into this area, and its communal setup.  Yes if it is about marketing what we are made of as Ugandans, then Wale Wale does this perfectly, but when it comes to expected quality, it fails.
