The music video : Woman – Juliana

Who is a woman? And what can she do? What can a woman become? This video by Juliana takes us on a visual voyage as it tries to answer these questions. We are treated to women doing all sorts of heroic things. We start off with a woman on a sewing machine. Then we are shown this wonderful nursery school teacher giving children a literacy foundation.
We then drop to that hospital nurse, pass by the lady running a charcoal stall and of course we also find that woman that has climbed the ladders of success. Talk of the middle class woman with a white collar job.  This video is a celebration of the roles that women are playing. Roles that are in many cases taken for granted yet are deserving of warrior status. This video showcases the women who do our laundry, and those who do our dishes.
This video is a beautifully shot piece that celebrates womanhood, inner strength, attraction and resilience. In this video, you will see women from all walks of life. It sheds light on the different ways women find their strength and the various obstacles they deal with daily. Juliana and the director Sasha Vybz should be applauded for presenting a more realistic view of women in all their many forms.
Most music videos are time bound; this one belongs to that class that is timeless. I love how Juliana arouses the inner emotions, reserved only for the strongest of women at that evening scene with the setting sun; clad in an awesome white dress. How they balance the lighting at this point, combined with the visible blue skies and close shots of Juliana is something that leaves me in reverence.
The video comes to the peak by displaying some of Uganda’s powerful women; the Matembes, the Kadagas, the Nabakoobas and Susan Muwonges just to mention but a few.
