The Music Video: Tubonge – Jose Chameleone

Chameleone

The video starts off with an emergency situation that involves Chameleone being rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with ambulance sirens buzzing in the background to magnify the situation. He is quickly put on life support as doctors watch over. If there is one video that’s had a unique concept for this year, then it’s the Tubonge video. It’s a real hospital setup; forget the usual fake setups we have in most Ugandan videos. The doctors, nurses and surgeons act out their part to perfection, and their dress-code (white, blue and green coats) creates those feelings of sadness and anxiety in the mind of the viewer.

The video gets more kudos when the location transfers to a Catholic chapel where Chameleone limps on crutches as he supports himself to the entrance. He is smartly clad in a white suit with a golden crucifix. The catchy moment is when the ghost of Daniela (read his wife in the video) sights him and rushes off into the chapel gracefully; I personally liked the art with which the white bridal gown swayed in an encircling flowery way.

Inside, as Chameleone kneels before the altar, his spirit leaves his body and chases after ‘Daniela’. The spirit later re-enters his body, to show oneness, unity and peace. The Meddiez Men and Mirage Concept guys did a good job with the colouring and lighting inside the chapel and evoked some horrific tales of sorts.

This is one video that keeps you stuck, waiting to see how it all ends. Every part is memorable, for-example, when the lady character in the chapel acted as a yogi and did some contemporary strokes. Talking of strokes, Chameleone once again pulls off his famous strokes, this time round, human dove strokes to stress the reconciliation theme of Tubonge.
