The music video : Kalibatanya – Juliana Kanyomozi

Juliana Kanyomozi never disappoints. Not much on the surface goes into her videos, you won’t find the pomp and glamour characteristic of most music videos, but you will find everything that you need to milk out of a music video – that’s visual simplicity that transforms into excellence. Kalibatanya is such a video. It prides in a simple storyline, few characters and execution of what is needed.
For the ladies watching this video, it provides a mini escape from the horrors of broke and stingy Ugandan men into the dreamy eyes and chiseled abs of these hunks in white trunks that feature in Juliana’s video. Unlike in most videos, the hunks are not the main course here; they are just the icing on the cake, for the cherry-pickers.
For the fashionista that Juliana is, she does justice to this video, continuously changing her costumes from scene to scene, matching the body accessories just right and combing up these attires in the right colours to communicate the emotions of a woman happily in love. The magic lies in that stolen eye contact that Juliana gives the viewer; it creates a rapport that’s romantic, yet comforting at the same time. You can ignore everything in this world, but it takes a rare kind of discipline to ignore Juliana’s blushing. It is a subtle way to tell the men out there trying to vibe her, not to give up.
In just three and a half minutes, the video is done. Juliana is still the star, and she does not let the characters that play out the storyline steal the show. Yet, the characters too, do not use this against her, instead they give their all by being in` the moment and achieving what was required of them. Sweet and simple can never get any better.
