After the world of factions basically collapsed in Insurgent, Tris (Woodley) and her now free friends get to go beyond the wall. The wall has kept them in all their lives in their factions so it stands to reason that its destruction means life is going to be beautiful. This is what someone who has not read the books said, adding that she didn’t get why the story was still going on.

If you have read the book, then you know that the danger for Tris, Four (James) and their friends is far from over. Outside the walls are enemies they thought were allies and it becomes increasingly clear that allegiances must be made with caution. For the newbies, the Divergent series follow Tris whose world in the last two movies was broken up in factions. The faction system seemed to work if you looked at it less critically.

However, it turned out that things were not so rosy, especially for people like Tris and Four who don’t fit in one particular faction, ergo the divergents. There was an uprising in the last movie, where the woman who was behind the killing of divergents was captured (and killed under suspicious circumstances). The uprising was a success that got rid of the faction system, and the wall that surrounded the city. Now the people are free but far from orderly. That’s where we are at in Allegiant.

The Divergent series started at a time when dystopic stories were very popular so the movies grabbed our attention. That seems to be the biggest reason we are interested in this particular series. Oh and loyalty to Woodley and James. Some people would call it something else but let’s go with loyalty for now. It cannot be because of the plot because there is nothing groundbreaking about it. That is why some people confuse the series with The Hunger Games. It also doesn’t help that the producers of these series have made it a habit of turning the last book into two movies. It feels like they are dragging a storyline we already know for no reason at all.
Despite our waning interest in the series, Allegiant is still an entertaining movie you can enjoy with friends at the cinema.
