George Clooney is Matt King, a reputed lawyer based in a Honolulu- Hawaii and he is taking things lightly which means some good humour and drama as he sets off on a somewhat tragic journey.
Matt is sole trustee of a family trust that controls 25,000 acres of virgin land on the island of Kauai’, a single dad to two girls and it is not all fun after almost losing his wife in a boat accident.
She is in coma and he has never been close to his daughters and they are a naughty duo. He will have to deal with Scottie’s inappropriate behaviour with other children and Alex’s drinking.
Matt learns that Elizabeth will never awaken from her coma, which means that under the terms of her living will, she must be disconnected shortly from life support.
He tells Alex, but not Scottie, that Elizabeth will not recover and must be allowed to die. Alex tells her father that Elizabeth was having an affair at the time of the accident. He will have to deal with that.
Matt has to find his other family too and they are not your ordinary family, but a bunch of funny fellows.
