Starring: Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins and James Remar
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Genre: Epic
Running time: 165 minutes
Now showing at Cineplex Cinema and in video shops in town

For some reason Cineplex Cinema’s current line-up is largely made up of old movies, released in 2012 and many sold by pirates in town. Django Unchained is one of such movies and the much awaited The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, part 2 is not yet at cinema yet pirates are trading it.

This weekend Django opens at the cinema. It is Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, which he wrote and directed. It is set in the antebellum era of the Deep South and Old West and follows a freed slave, played by Jammie Foxx who treks across the US with a bounty hunter on a mission to rescue his wife from a charismatic but cruel plantation owner.

It is an engaging film with a revealing, satirical dialogue, good cinematography, characterisation of a star-studded cast and for this, the movie has already received acclaim from critics and has been nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Waltz) and Best Original Screenplay (Tarantino).
At the 70th Golden Globe Awards, Christoph Waltz won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and Quentin Tarantino won the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay.
Michael K. Williams and Will Smith were mentioned as possibilities for the title role of Django,  but in the end Jamie Foxx was cast in the role.

The film has received very positive reviews and has garnered a rating of 88% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, based on 181 critical reviews with an average rating of 8 out of 10.
The consensus of opinion was: “Bold, bloody, and stylistically daring, Django Unchained is another incendiary masterpiece from Quentin Tarantino.”
