The movie :Captain of Nakara

Starring: Bernard Safari, Shirlen Wanjari and Charles Kiarie
Director: Bob Nyanja
Genre: comedy
Now showing at Cineplex Cinema

We all love a happy life and we all do a few things to help us get this kind of life. That is the situation the lead actor in this Kenyan movie is in.

The story plays out in Kwetu, a typical 1970s African military dictatorship. Muntu and his pal Sunday, two rather dreamy small-time crooks, have been released from jail as part of the celebrations of the president’s birthday. On the same day, Muntu falls in love with the pretty daughter of a preacher. Afraid of losing the woman of his dreams, he refrains from mentioning his immediate past and allows her to believe that he owns a profitable market stall. His honest attempts to turn this lie into reality fail due to the ubiquitous local corruption. Wearing a stolen military uniform and pretending to be the captain of Nakara, Muntu manages to succeed in defending his rights, his happiness – and ends up elected as Kwetu’s president!

Bernard Safari the lead actor is not new to viewers eyes. He has starred in a series with a similar storyline, which aired on local Kenyan TV.

Kenya’s The Standard newspaper quotes veteran Kenyan actor Ainea Ojiambo as saying, “It would have been a nice comical film but it needed a bit of tightening.”
It is a budget movie, one which English producer Jim Shamoon terms as a comedy with a social message.
