Movie Premiers are not something that the public looks out for in Uganda and this may be attributed to the fact that the movie industry is not yet there.
Whenever a movie is to be premiered, it’s the cast, their families, and a few ardent movie fans as well as critics that attend, but due to the publicity given to Veronica’s Wish, at least a good number of people turned up for its premier last Saturday at Serena Hotel.
Besides its story line, one more captivating thing about this movie is that it’s among the few Ugandan movies that was written, produced and directed by women. Nisha Kalema, the lead actress did the writing and producing of it while Rehema Nanfuka, a recognized actress did the directing.
Veronica’s Wish is an awesome film and during the nomination of the Uganda Film Festival, it has four nominations, which caused a lot of attention on social media because by the time of its nomination, the movie hadn’t premiered yet. However, after witnessing what the movie is all about, we can barely blame the organizers of the Festival because it should have been nominated even more.
Based on a true story, the movie is about a couple that had their dreams broken when just days to their wedding, the bride is diagnosed with Leukemia. Her wish is to create awareness about the killer disease and to get married to her husband.
It has sad, wow and humorous scenes, which kept the audience glued to the screens. No wonder Bryan Ahumuza of Abryanz fashion and Style awards won the auctioning of the art piece of the movie at shs1.5million.
The main cast of the movie includes Nisha Kalema as Veronica, Housen Mushema as the groom as well as Malaika Nnyanzi and Simon Base Kalema among others.
