Hustler Isaac Kataryeba

TALENT: Isaac Kataryeba knew what he wanted to do while still in high school and when he was ready, he did not hestitate to ask his mother for a hand. Almost four years later, the creative designer counts 15-20 clients a week.

What kind of business do you do?
I am a creative designer.

What kind of designing do you do?
I do still and motion graphics, mobile phone applications, User interfaces and promotional print work for events, among others.

Why creative design?
I was passionate about graphic design since my school days, so I am doing what I love.

At what point did you decide to take it up professionally?
In 2013 after high school.

How much did you invest in this business?
All I needed was Shs1m for a laptop.

Where did you get the money to buy it?
My mother helped me. I told her about the kind of job I wanted to do and she helped me with the finances. It was not a loan, she just helped me kickstart.

Where do you operate from?
I operate mainly from Fame Lounge in Kololo. If I am not there, I work from home.

How much do you charge for the designs?
My work contracts usually range between Shs1m and Shs2m, depending on the type of work required.

Where do your ideas come from?
I develop all my concepts from the root, and only a few times when inspiration comes from fellow designers’ projects online.

How much profit do you make from this business?
I am not comfortable disclosing that kind of information here, but I get enough to sustain my life.

How many clients do you get in a week?
Well, that depends, but usually 15 to 25 clients a week.

What challenges do you face doing this business?
Not much trouble, only that there are some clients who default on their payments.
