The arrest and consequential imprisonment of SK Mbuga and his wife Angella Vivienne Chebet had a number of conspiracy theories that divided the tycoon’s followers. The news that the couple had conned Sten Heinsoo, a 71-year-old Swedish politician, of over Shs23billion was greeted with both disapproval and applause from Ugandans.

No, you did not read that wrong. Some people actually applauded the Mbugas for stealing from a ‘white man’ and helping some poor Ugandans with his projects.
A one Lukwago Muhammed commented on social media saying, “They took our grandparents and used them to build their great cities, empires and so many other things. That is why SK Mbuga is just picking some pennies from then.”

Well the people who were proud of the Ugandan Bonnie and Clyde, began trading conspiracy theories about who was behind the arrest. Many said that it was Mbuga’s business allies or rival ‘tycoons’ like Jack Pemba and Ed Cheune.

However, Jack Pemba has come out to address these theories and has denied having played any hand in the tracking down of Mbuga.
“Mbuga knows exactly what went on. They have accused me, they have accused Cheune. Thy accuse everybody but the reality is there and everybody knows it.
Mbuga’s case and my business are very different things,” Pemba said, while speaking in interview with Spark TV.
He also added that he and Mbuga are good friends who are even still in touch even though the latter is locked up in Awir Central Jail in Dubai.
