Staying as a duo in Uganda’s music industry for a long time is a hard thing to maintain. We have seen groups like Obsessions, Blu3 and Dream Girls come and go but for the last 10 years, the duo of Mowzey Radio and Weasel has been on the scene. Even with numerous stories of them breaking up making rounds, they have stood the test of time and they are still here.

The duo yesterday decided to celebrate the milestone and there was no better way than to hold a show. Mowzey and Weasel last evening headlined a concert dubbed “10 years of Radio and Weasel” at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

The show which kicked off at 6pm had revellers coming in slowly. By 8:30pm, many had started to say the show had flopped but they ate their words when the rugby grounds were filled to capacity by 9:30pm.

Radio and Weasel came on stage at exactly 10pm dressed in white long gowns, performing one of their old hit songs Talk and Talk. They took the crowds down memory lane with the songs that introduced them in the industry in 2007. They performed Nakudata followed by songs like Zuena, Nyumbani, Amaaso, Vitamin and Leesu before they went for a breather.

While they were away, singer King Micheal came and did two songs before Red Banton came to remind people that he still exists. He performed only one song barely known by anyone and left the stage. Pallaso the younger brother to Weasel, then came on stage for the second time. He had earlier performed Amaaso with Radio and Weasel.

The duo came back at around 10:50pm (having changed into African print gowns) performing the song Lwaki Onumya. They then started performing some of the new songs from 2015 to 2017. Realising time was fast flying, they started singing songs half way through before moving to the next. Even then, by the end of the day, they left many songs not sung.

The sound that was provided by Vybz Events had a few glitches as the output was barely heard until it was rectified. The band must have not had enough time to rehearse with the artistes because they were not coordinating; the artistes kept on going to the band to talk to them before they performed the next song.

The show that was sponsored by Bell Lager and MTN had other artistes who came on earlier to support Radio and Weasel. The big guns in the music industry who include Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, Chameleone and Eddy Kenzo were a no-show.

The artistes who performed included Irene Ntale, Gravity Omutujju, Raba Daba, Ykee Benda, Fik Famieca, Lil Pazo and TIP Swizzy among others. The artistes will be at Trans Africa in Jinja tonight before they end the 10 years celebrations tomorrow at Resort Beach in Entebbe.
