All for art: Art comes in different ways, some people are so good with paintings, others are good with sculptures, while others are extremely talented with modelling but William Mwanga is an expert in all the three. As he explain to us..
How would you define your job?
I am an artist. I live for art and I have loved art since I was young. I do sculptures, models and paintings.

What materials do you use to make your art pieces?
I have made several pieces, both sculptures and paintings. With sculptures I use mainly cement but also different materials such as clay, wood, paper and metal, for paintings I normally use acrylics and oil colours.

Where do you work from?
I normally work from my home in Luzira but at times, I get commissions for sculptures and paintings in different places such as schools and churches.

How much do your art pieces go for?
Paintings normally cost Shs100,000. Small ones, for example 16 by 10 inches cost much more. Sculptures vary from Shs200,000 onwards but the price is negotiable.

Where did you learn to do this from?
I have been doing art since I was a child, took it up to college and I also have a diploma from Michelangelo School of Arts in 2004. The school is situated in Kisubi on Entebbe Road.

Where can one find your art pieces?
I made the sculptures at St Mary’s College Kisubi when they were celebrating 100 years in 2006, I also have some in schools in Masaka, hotels such as Joggies in Bulenga and Garuga Country Resort.

How many art pieces can you do in a day?
It depends on the moods I am in. I can make a piece in a day and then you can find me doing the same piece for four days.

What is the difference between sculptures and paintings?
Sculptures are three dimension and two dimension works while paintings are one dimension with colour.
