Second Kampala Restaurant Week for June

Kampala Restaurant Week, which is a week-long restaurant showcase is back and this time in it’s second edition. This year’s event will run from June 1 to 11 and 40 restaurants in Kampala will take part in the showcase. This year’s edition was launched last Wednesday at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

Starting on June 1, the 40 participating restaurants will offer a variety of dining options ranging from casual to signature dining, the restaurants will also create a multi-cuisine three course menu unlike last year where restaurants offered only a one course meal.

While speaking at the launch ahead of the second edition of the Kampala Restaurant Week, Philip Kalibwani, the business development manager at The Pearl Guide the organisers of the event, he said the idea of the event is to showcase and celebrate the great restaurants that are in Kampala. “This is when diners get a chance to visit different restaurants at cheap prices besides the ones they are used to,” Kalibwani said.

During the restaurant week, there will be two events and these will be the Tusker Lite Fusion Cuisine Night where selected four top restaurants will showcase strictly Ugandan dishes, the other event will be the closing event which is the awards ceremony.

Voting for restaurants last year was done through social media but this time round, it will be different. A credible dining regulator and authority will judge decide which restaurant stands out and this will be Chaine des Rotisseur Uganda which is an international gastronomic society.

The awards during the Restaurant Week will be The Outstanding Service Award, The Innovation Award and the People’s Choice Top Restaurant Award.

The menus at different restaurants will be discounted and price-fixed across all restaurants with starters at Shs10,000, main courses at Shs25,000 and desserts at Shs10,000.

Some of the restaurants which will take part in the Kampala Restaurant Week are Cafe Javas, Cafe Mamba, Cafe Mebanas, Dancing Cup, Design Agenda, Dolphin Suites, Endiro Coffee, Great Indian Dhaba, Kabira Country Club, Kati Kati, Liquid Silk Little Donkey and Nawab among others.
