Date With a Celeb: Ivan Bright meets singer Coco Finger

Coco Finger (left) with Ivan Bright.

(Moses Okori, aka, Coco Finger interacted with Ivan Bright at the industrial area based recording studio, Fenon, and they chatted the evening away.)

What’s up man?
I’m okay, I enjoy hanging out with you my fans. I am a free spirit, so, anytime and anywhere you might find me again please say hullo. So what do you do?

I have a workshop where I do electrical repairs like phones, radios, TVs and many other appliances.
That reminds me that my phone has been malfunctioning recently. Luckily, I’m currently having a Chameleone Mobile that Chameleone gave me recently, you know I’m as much a big fun of his as he is of mine. I will give you the other faulty one and you work on it.

You bring it anytime, I will fix it free of charge. But, when did you realise you could actually sing?
Ah man, a long time ago. I’ve always been singing. I remember in primary school I liked drumming to folk songs a lot. So since then, I’ve been involved in music. However, my professional career started in 2004 before I left for Tanzania for three years and then returned in 2007 and started recording here.

You showed up out of nowhere and your first track became a hit? How did you do it?
No man, it wasn’t my first track, there were so many other songs that didn’t get anywhere not even nearly getting recorded and then some that were recorded didn’t make it as hits.

So to whom do you attribute our breakout to?
Man, everyone. It’s like an A-team job; me, studio, producers, media, club DJs. Also discipline and devotion to school. Individual discipline can help you be very successful but books will make you soar beyond what you ever imagined possible. So man, books always come first because in life you will meet so many people, you’ll have to deal with several companies and you have to be sharp in dealing with them.

What did you study?
I have a diploma in social work. I always had a backup plan to start a foundation in line with what I studied, thank God music never disappointed. But I will still do the foundation because social workers can be quite many things but most importantly counsellors.

What do you do to chill?
I go for Mic Check comedy, hangout at the studio with producers and other guys, in most cases I’m here at Fenon or somewhere singing.
